Brief

At Instinct our main clients were investment management firms. Over the course of working with them, we realised one of their main requests was to have a better visual representation of their funds data and move away from boring factsheets. Whether it’s in their new product campaign or want a better way of educating their existing advisors and customers. Soon after this realisation we thought it would be better if we had a white labeled offering of a product that did that out of the box.

  • The industry is heavily reliant on fund factsheets to relay fund information. This is a 2-page static PDF that gives an overview of the product but with no ability to investigate or interrogate the data.

  • 92% of fund factsheets contained one year performance data that was a month out of date.

  • A paper by the FCA highlighted the need for greater transparency and for customer information to be clear, fair and not misleading.

  • The vision behind Fund Explorer was to provide a digital alternative that gave information up to date and transparent on any device

Process

Based on our experience over the years, we knew what was needed. I was the sole designer working closely with Instinct’s CEO. I was responsible for designing and presenting design concepts to him and the rest of the wider team. Working along side the development team we produced a high-fidelity prototype of the product, and produced accompanying brand guidelines, iconography and a defined process for the white labelling. As Fund Explorer had to work cross platform on the web, mobile and tablet. Each element was carefully considered from a adaptive perspective.

Result

The result was a simple, clean and scalable design that broke down fund data which worked with any brand. We also created a marketing website showcasing Fund Explorer. The response from the industry was positive. This ended up changing Instinct Studios business model from a service company to a product one.
